California Day 1 - The Zoo!

William and I had a blast at the Los Angeles Zoo. It was pretty cool! Thank goodness my mom let us borrow her TomTom GPS, otherwise we would NOT have made it. That thing saved us all week long!
The day we were at the zoo was almost record heat in Los Angeles. We were cooking! William loved not having an undershirt on, because he could find his belly button anytime he wanted to! He found this spot with the curb and played there for a while, having fun balancing, digging, and jumping off.

All of the animals were out, and were always so close to us. They had this huge chimpanzee habitat and they would walk right up to William by the glass. He loved the "ooh ooh ah ah's".
Just a note, these pictures are not in any order. But one thing William demanded while at the zoo was to walk. Everywhere. We were there for over 3 hours and he maybe rode in the stroller for 10 minutes of that time. I knew he was tired when he walked up to the fence and said "sleep, mom."
So we found a bench and took a rest.
Every time he saw a fence he'd take off running to it, dying to see what other animals were on the other side. He loved watching this crocodile swim around and then walk along the shore. It was pretty big!
And of course we stopped to find our belly button.
They had a great big carosel, and William chose to ride the fish that looked like Nemo.
It blows me away to look at these pictures and see how big he is getting!
He got to watch one elephant take a bath and then take a few steps down to find himself about 10 feet away from another huge elephant!

William is such a friendly kid. While looking at the elephants he saw this little boy, so he walked over and knelt down by him, said "hi!" and acted like they have always been best buds.
They had a fun playground, but it was over-dominated by bigger kids. He was pretty sad to leave it though! When we walked up to the gorilla's area there was a big group of kids just leaving because the gorilla was no where to be seen. As soon as they left, it was just William and me, this big guy came out strutting past us. Good timing!
We had a great time, even with all the heat. It was fun to just follow William around and see where he'd want to go. As we left I tried to get him to smile for me in front of the zoo, but he wouldn't even look at me. Then another lady posed her kids (the ones far back behind William), came and stood by me, and yelled out "Smile!" So William said cheese with a big grin. Just for her.
